Saint Paul Seminary Chapel • Silang, Cavite—“Do not let your hearts be troubled as you embark on another stage of formation,” Provincial Superior Fr. Jose Aripio, SSP exhorts the 11 young men who entered the SSP Postulancy Program: Micha Miguel Competente, Sebastian Gadia III, Kendall Mayuman, Paul Vincent Octubre, Oliver Vergel Par, Clarence Sazon, Ramon Tambis, Samy John Torrrefranca, Edward Dantis, Jose Felix Cortez, Edward Dantis. Fr. Aripio furthermore stressed on them to pray for one another to have that spiritual bond.

In a simple rite after the Eucharistic Visit, witnessed by their Postulant Master Fr. Leonardo Ellezar, SSP, the ceremony happened on May 31, 2011 after the three-day Pre-postulants’ and Pre-novices’ retreat at St. Charles Borromeo Retreat House in Ulat, Tagaytay with Bro. Dennis Figuerres, Fr. Domie Guzman, Jr. and Fr. Jose Aripio as retreat facilitators.

After the oathtaking, they were given the emblem and were reminded that it should not only be an outward sign but an inner religious foundation.

During the Postulancy Period which is primarily based in Cebu City, one is exposed to the professional world of Communications even as one continues to know deeper the congregation’s life and apostolate through one’s stay in various apostolic communities of the Province.

The event was also witnessed by the soon to be Novices, Fr. Ruben Areno, SSP and Ms. Carel Monteverde. Sumptous dinner prepared by the PDDM Silang-Community capped the event.

Postulancy! It is no less than a goal but a great portal for astonishment and trust in the grace of God. It is a period when one unshackles himself from the system of the seminary life. One carries with himself a lighthearted disposition to deepen his understanding of the world in full freedom and responsibility towards holistic sensitivity and maturity.

A Postulant's Recollection

Eight young men of fearless spirits decide to create a memoir of experiences—within the rich and remarkable cultural heritage in the country—Cebu, the Queen City of the South. They are no exiled; they are only sent out to survive from the rainbows of multiculturalism and the unending demands of society. They equip themselves with the armors of hope, trust and faith in God against every opportunity and threat that would come along their way.

After a simple rite of entrance to Postulancy last May 21, 2011 at St. Paul Seminary Foundation, Silang, Cavite by Fr. Jose Aripio, SSP, Provincial Superior and Fr. Leonardo Ellezar, SSP, Formator of Postulants, they are now ready to pack up their things and masterfully weave their own stories of explorations and skirmishing against the shadows of pessimism and hopelessness. The three Adult Vocation aspirants are now going to further their willingness to totally surrender themselves to God and the congregation. They will be like artistic chameleons within the different St. Paul communities but will make these locales seem—graciously—perfect.

Their life is uncertain. Shall they throw this opportunity away? Better take it with them. Anyway, it is a gift to rekindle. (Novice Omar Delgado)
